She waits on a hill overlooking the open plain, watching the sun rise from his bed in a glorious display. Behind her, the villagers gather. Her white dress flaps in the wind, creating a shimmering shadow behind her. She fingers her neck, feeling her Mark. It has become more prominent and painful during the night.
She has been waiting for this day for many years, the Mark only becoming visible with her first monthly flow. Her own life became meaningless at the same moment; her only purpose had been revealed. The time of her purpose had come.
The day of His speech had arrived, as prophesized. He was to come and speak to His people as He had every century since time immemorial. She was to be His vehicle, His puppet to speak through. She will hold His Spirit within her. She closes her eyes in anticipation. She has never known a man, keeping her self pure for Him as required. The spirit she will hold inside her will fill her as no man possibly could.
The babble of villagers behind her grows quiet. A new light has brightened the horizon. The sun has pulled itself up into the blue sky. Beneath it, a blindingly bright speck of light shines forth. She pulls in a breath. He comes.
The light grows larger with each moment, as large as a small house. The bright white light rips across the fields impossibly fast. A sound reaches the villagers ears, a sound that can only be described as the very ground ripping apart.
She stands, bracing herself. She knows she will be hit with a tremendous force. Each Arrival has been them same, but each vehicle left in a different condition. Some have disappeared completely. She knows not what her fate will be.
A cry goes up as the light slams into the slender womans body. She is thrown to the ground, her body convulsing powerfully. Her skin glows red, her eyes cloud into blackness. The body raises itself to a standing position. Glowing cracks appear in the crimson skin. The villagers shudder and step back as the womans body grows larger, the glowing cracks becoming bright chasms.
He Speaks.
Inside her body, the woman shivers in pain. She feels the cracks and the openings in her body and is unable to sooth herself. Her mind has grown to incredible proportions, a cathedral where once it was a cottage. Thoughts skitter through like clouds of flying gnats, imparting knowledge of the Universe. Her own thoughts scatter, as she is unable to cope with the mass of knowledge now crowding into her mind. She tries to scream, but no sound can be made. He has taken her body over completely, leaving her helpless within herself.
The light fades from her body as He leaves. The sun is now going down, the day growing dark. Her body collapses in on itself and falls to the ground. Once His light is gone over the horizon again, her family runs to her. Her skin is whole once again, her eyes are clear. As they try to speak to her, they find she can no longer communicate with them. Her breathing is uneven, as if she cannot even control her breath. Her limbs flop limply as they handle her. Her eyes stare blankly.
Her mind is empty, still the size of a cathedral. All of her thoughts have left with Him. She lies within herself, her energy spent. She can no longer control her body. He has left her helpless, her mind a ruin.
She sleeps, she dreams. She dreams of her God who has taken her.
